It's 10:47pm. I just got back home from a day of shooting, followed by rehearsal, followed by a performance of my sketch about Euthanasia, performed for the benefit of cancer patients everywhere (the sketch, not the mercy-killing). I received an email telling me that the script of my film is changing dramatically (an actor failed to show) and I've got some new scenes tomorrow; oh and an 8:30am call time. Doing some math, I might be able to get 6 hours of sleep - not bad for most, but a nightmare for a hibernating bear like me.
It's tired nights and early mornings like this that predispose me to sleeping through my alarm. To that end, I make sure that I set three alarms - an alarm clock, a radio alarm, and a wakeup call service. I'm a persistent enough sleeper that I need double-redundancy, my sleeping self is capable of hopping in and out of my loft bed twice to turn off alarms before it even registers that I should be awake.
Wakerupper.com is a pretty cool solution to the problem of setting a wakeup call in a foreign land. I was one of the early beta testers of the product and my suggestions led to some of their current features. Basically, you go to this website, say when you want to wake up, type in a message for yourself, and the next day you'll get a call to the phone you specify. So, if you ever need an alarm clock and you don't have one handy, try Wakerupper.com
